WA Alumni News

Dear WA Parent,

I hope this finds you well and in good health! In lieu of recent influenza activity in neighboring schools I would like to take a moment to address this issue. Williamsburg Academy is being extremely proactive in its preventative measures in trying to limit all illness on campus.

Our custodial staff is working diligently on a daily basis by sanitizing all door knobs, bathrooms, the cafeteria, etc. to minimize the spread of germs. All classrooms have been equipped with their own bottles of hand sanitizer, Lysol cleaner, and antibacterial disinfectant wipes. (If parents would like to donate any of these items to Williamsburg Academy, please feel free.) We are also stressing in every classroom to all students and faculty to please continue to wash their hands often and especially after using the restroom.

In addition to our efforts on campus we strongly encourage all parents to monitor their children closely. If your child is sick or running a fever, please do not send them to school. The Williamsburg Academy administration will be very flexible with you on any days missed and will work very closely with faculty members to communicate all assignments missed to parents.

Below you will find several recommendations from the DHEC website on influenza prevention and a listing of precautionary measures that can be taken in an effort to reduce the risk of exposure. The website for DHEC is: http://www.scdhec.gov/flu/swine-flu.htm
Facts About the Novel H1N1 Flu Vaccine, Symptoms and Treatment
We urge you to continue taking these simple, but very important steps to protect yourself and others from various strains of the flu:
  • Wash your hands thoroughly and often.
  • Cover your cough with your sleeve, not your hand.
  • Stay home if you're sick.
  • Stay away from people who are sick.
  • Eat a healthy diet and get plenty of rest.
  • Symptoms typically show up 48 to 72 hours after a person has come into contact with the virus and include sudden onset of weakness, muscle aches, cough, sore throat or runny nose with fever. You may not experience all of these symptoms.
Again, Williamsburg Academy will continue its efforts to try to minimize to the spread of any illness on its campus. Please continue to keep open lines of communication with the school if you have any questions or concerns or to report any cases of illness.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Sincerely,

M. Evan Powell
